Karlijn Woons is the central defender of AZ Women. She played in the youth at vv ZOB, after which she made the switch to professional club VV Alkmaar, the club that was replaced by AZ in the Azerion Women’s Eredivisie. The defender made her debut in professional football on January 21, 2022, at VV Alkmaar in an away match against Feyenoord. At VV Alkmaar, Woons played 17 matches at the highest level. On September 8, 2023, Karlijn made her official debut for AZ. This was also the first match of AZ in the Azerion Women’s Eredivisie. Additionally, Karlijn has been called up multiple times for the youth teams of the Dutch national team. The central defender was part of Oranje Under 17 and Under 19. With the Netherlands Under-19, Karlijn managed to qualify for the Under-19 European Championship in Lithuania, where she reached the semi-finals. Additionally, Karlijn has been called up for Jong Oranje.
